Owens Farm
January 2026
The new planning application to build +400 houses on Owens Farm west of Hook is being validated by Hart DC. The developer held a public ‘consultation’ on their plan but only virtually. Their consultation was lacking in detail. We will soon see the ‘real-deal’ and will then advise our thoughts and provide details for you to review and use for your own comments to Hart. This is the area impacted by the development.

Residents need to be aware of the impact of this proposal not only to West Hook, but to Hook as a whole (cars, schools, nurseries, doctors, flooding, sewerage, loss of green fields) with of course a significant impact on Newnham in terms of traffic through this historic village setting. The wildlife in the area will be severely impacted. This location has been subject to planning applications before that were refused, residents objected as did our councils.
Residents should also be aware that developers do not always build sites themselves. Once planning permission is secured, land options can be sold on to other parties, allowing the original promoter to bank significant profits, while the long-term impacts are left for the community to live with. This is the case with this site – no housebuilder is involved, just a development company looking to sell on the site at a large profit if planning permission were granted.
